Six Rivers - Rhasta ROVCurrent Update - Update 1 - Team RosterThis week’s goals:
This week’s timeline:
We give ourselves an 8.5 out of 10 for how well we are meeting our timeline. Accomplishments:We have completely finished designing our ROV and we know all of the parts we will need, and how much they’ll cost. We’ve written and sent out a letter to local business asking for support. We have already collected a few small monetary donations. Some things we had a hard time with are: Finding businesses that were willing to support us was much more difficult than anticipated. It has required a lot of follow-through and patience. We’ve had some unsuspected setbacks that have slowed down our progress. We give ourselves 6 out of 10 for our overall progress level. Some ways we could improve are: We need to be more persistent with businesses, but always keep in mind where the boundary is. Some things we are doing well: We are staying on task much better than we have been. Some things we learned are:How to use SketchUp 5 to create a graphic design. Some questions we’ve had are:What is the estimated total cost of this project going to be? We’ve found answers to those questions by:Creating a list of needed materials and their prices, then going to ACE Hardware to see how much of the parts they’d be willing to donate. Some things we’d like to share:It’s Christina’s 18th birthday on the day of our Regional Competition! Yaaaaaay! Next week's goals:
Next week’s timeline:
Our advisor says: I am very proud of these students for taking the initiative on fundraising. They wrote a fundraising letter, printed it on Six Rivers Charter High School stationary, and have carried it to numerous local businesses in the past week and a half. So far they have raised $90 in cash, they also have three businesses that will give them discounts on materials, and they have one business that will donate materials. The students have also spent time analyzing the design needs of the ROV by looking at the MATE competition missions and creating a design of their ROV on SketchUp 5, a simple CAD program.
